Mamelodi Sundowns will have a massive say in the relegation battle when they host Maritzburg United on Tuesday.

A fixture complicated season comes to an end for the champions Sundowns on Tuesday.

In a strange twist, Maritzburg United’s season will also end before the rest of their counterparts finish on Saturday, 20 May.

Maritzburg United kept their DStv Premiership hopes alive going into the final round after they beat Stellenbosch 1-0 at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday.

Amadou Soukouna was the hero for Fadlu Davids’s side as his eighth goal of the season handed them a first win since 2 April.

Maritzburg remain bottom but are level with Chippa and Marumo Gallants on 29 points.

They are boosted by the fact that Sundowns are currently thick in the battle to move into the final of the CAF Champions League.

They drew 0-0 with Wydad Casablanca at the Mohamed V Stadium in Morocco on Saturday.

The South Africans had two players sent off and a goal disallowed in a turbulent first leg semi-final clash.

You would expect plenty of player rotation for this league encounter.

Should Sundowns claim a win against Maritzburg they will beat their own record for the most points in a 30-game PSL season.

Sundowns have won 12 of their 14 home games so far , so remain on course to beat a mark they currently jointly hold. A win on Tuesday rubs BidVest Wits (2016/17), Sundowns (2015/16) and Ajax Cape Town (2010/11) from the record books.
