United’s draw has them trailing their visitors by seven points. The home side are in fifth while Spurs’ latest win saw them remain in third position but level on 23 points with second-placed Manchester City.

“Of course, of course. I think we’re playing better,” David de Gea said.

“We are winning some difficult games, keeping some good clean sheets as well. That’s super important for us and I feel it.

“The players want it more, we are hungry and that’s a good signal, so let’s keep doing well and keep fighting together.

“I think it’s just go game by game and try to win as much as we can and be prepared for each game.

“Not thinking about the future or anything else, just prepare yourself to be ready for the next one and then the next one, so this is the mentality. Train properly and recover properly and go game by game.”

History will be on United’s side as they did the double over Tottenham last season, winning the first leg by a comfortable margin of 3-0 before securing a thrilling 3-2 victory at Old Trafford in the return leg.

Erik ten Hag has a long injury list as Axel Tuanzebe, Brandon Williams, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial are all expected to miss the tie against Spurs, while it remains to be seen if Christian Eriksen will recover from illness in time to line up against his former club.

Antonio Conte has been dealt a blow as Richarlison joins Dejan Kulusevski on the injury list, while Emerson Royal will serve the third and final game of his suspension.

David De Gea will be brimming with confidence after making his 500 appearances for Manchester United on Sunday, with seven of his 170 clean sheets coming against Tottenham.

Harry Kane will look to continue his prolific start to the season, having already bagged nine goals as he looks to become the first Spurs player to score in six consecutive league appearances.
