The new season of the English Premier League has already roared to life, and there is plenty to look out for when the third round of action takes place this weekend.
PREMIER LEAGUE – ALL THE BETTING ODDS
United-Liverpool set for blockbuster battle
It’s been a challenging start to the season for both United and Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s team have been beset with injuries, and they have floundered to two meek draws to start their campaign.
That said, it’s been a whole lot worse for United after suffering two defeats – including a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Brentford – which has left them rooted to the bottom of the table.
Immense pressure is already building on new United manager Erik ten Hag, with some outlets already betting that he has a 65% chance of leaving the club before Christmas.
Both teams will be desperate for victory, and it will certainly be interesting to see just what sort of reaction comes from the Old Trafford crowd if the Red Devils slump to another defeat on Monday.
Can anyone stop Manchester City?
BET ON THIS PREMIER LEAGUE MATCH
After just two rounds of action, many onlookers are already suggesting City could cruise to another Premier League triumph, which comes off the back of winning the title in four of the past five editions.
Guardiola’s team have started their new campaign with comfortable wins over West Ham and Bournemouth, and have settled quickly into a familiar spot at the summit of the standings.
It’s still early days, of course, but Man City snapped up the signature of Anderlecht left-back Sergio Gomez this past week as they continue to bolster their squad, with the youngster joining other new recruits Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips and goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.
They now face a potentially tricky trip to Newcastle on Sunday evening, but there is every chance they could continue to make a big statement at the start of the season.
As it is, the defending Premier League champs have won the last three times on the road against Newcastle United, and should be confident of adding another positive result to that record.
Can Gabriel Jesus keep firing for Arsenal?
It has been a mightily impressive start for Jesus at Arsenal, with the forward certainly catching the attention of fans in the Gunners’ opening two matches of the season.
The 25-year-old was named as the Player of the Match after he scored twice and grabbed two assists in Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Leicester City on Saturday, while he has interestingly aimed a thinly-veiled jibe at former manager Pep Guardiola.
“I started playing much more on the wing at City and for Brazil. For a while I thought that. But I’ve changed my mentality, I believe much more in myself now. I’m smiling again playing football.”
“I’m very blessed as I can play across all front three but I am a No. 9. I am there to finish our chances. Not only that but to help the team as a whole.”
Arsenal will travel to Bournemouth on Saturday, with Jesus hoping to fire the Gunners to a third successive victory.
