Champions Mamelodi Sundowns will gear up for their penultimate DStv Premiership fixture when they welcome Stellenbosch FC to the ABSA Tuks Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Brazilians will come into this fixture looking to return to winning ways after they were held to a 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs in their last outing at the FNB Stadium on Sunday after a late equaliser from Phathutshedzo Nange to cancel out Aubrey Modiba’s opener handed Amakhosi a vital point in Soweto.

Sundowns, who were recently crowned champions, will remain at the top of the league standings with 62 points from 28 games, having won 18, drawn eight and only conceded two defeats so far this season.

Stellenbosch will be hoping to end their two-game winless run in the league after they were forced to share the spoils with Maritzburg United when they played out to a 1-1 draw at the Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday as Bulelani Ndengane’s 61st-minute opener was t by equalled out by a goal from Judas Moseamedi.

Stellies enter the encounter sitting in fifth place on the league table with 41 points from 28 games, trailing fourth place Kaizer Chiefs by two points, third-placed Royal AM by four points and seven points behind Cape Town City in second place.

In the last five matches between Sundowns and Stellies, the Brazilians has by far dominated the head-to-head clash, having won four out of five games, while the most recent game played at Danie Craven Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw when Lyle Lakay’s 59th-minute goal cancelled out Junior Mendieta’s 43rd-minute penalty.

Heading into the fixture at the ABSA Tuks Stadium, both Manqoba Mngqithi and Steve Barker will have their entire squad fit and ready for the encounter in Pretoria.

All eyes will be on in for striker Peter Shalulile as he looks to break Collins Mbesuma’s goalscoring record after he failed to find the back of the net in their last game against Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend.

Stellies will once again rely on Judas Moseamedi, who is known for scoring against big teams and snatching points away from them, as he goes in search of his seventh league goal of the campaign.
