An ever-unpredictable Tottenham Hotspur team will be looking to reinvigorate their challenge for a top-four finish in the Premier League when they host Everton on Monday.
Last weekend, a 4-0 hammering of Leeds came just days after a shock loss to relegation-threatened Burnley. That defeat was preceded by a stunning victory over log-leaders Manchester City, which further highlighted just how unpredictable Spurs can be, and that’s without even mentioning their shock exit from the FA Cup.
Tottenham currently lie in seventh place on the EPL log, but they are still very much in the hunt for a Champions League qualifying berth.
The upcoming clash against 17th-placed Everton will certainly be seen as another golden opportunity to bank three log points and to continue building the pressure on Arsenal, West Ham and Manchester United.
Just recently, manager Antonio Conte made it abundantly clear that Tottenham needed to start fulfilling their potential on a consistent basis.
“After four defeats in five games, and winning the game against Manchester City, it was important to send the right message, a clear message to myself, the club and also the players.
“We have to know we are here to enjoy football, at the same time to improve ourselves, to ask ourselves for 100 percent commitment and desire and also to underline that a team like Tottenham does not exist to lose four games in five.”
After a congested schedule of fixtures, Tottenham have recently had to contend with the injury-enforced absence of four first team players, Oliver Skipp, Japhet Tanganga, Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Moura.
Skipp and Tanganga both have undisclosed muscular injuries that have kept them out of the side for a few weeks, while Bentancur has what was described as an ankle injury. Moura was said to have picked up a minor injury in training, and there could be some hope for his return.
In the context of Spurs’ challenge for a top-four finish, Monday’s match in London has to be viewed as a must-win, with Everton unlikely to put up much of a fight in a forgettable season that has seen them win just six games to date.
