Ahead of the much-anticipated Soweto derby, here are five players who could potentially lead their team to glory when Orlando Pirates welcome Kaizer Chiefs to the Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Bernard Parker (Kaizer Chiefs)

Heading into his 32nd Soweto derby match against the Buccaneers, Parker has years of experience and has been ever-present in the derby. He will play an important role for Chiefs when they come up against Pirates but will look to improve his personal tally which stands at three goals and 5 assists. He has 12 losses in the derby with 11 wins.

Deon Hotto (Orlando Pirates)

The Namibian international will be a real threat to the Amakhosi defence as he has the ability to both score and then create goals. He has already scored four goals and claimed nine assists in 27 matches so far as he looks to add to his goal tally against Chiefs, having only scored one goal and created three assists in 15 matches against them.

Khama Billiat (Kaizer Chiefs)

With seven goals and six assist to his name so far this campaign, the Zimbabwean international together with his attacking partner Keagan Dolly has been in some form for Amakhosi and have created a total of 23 goals between them. Billiat has a good record against Pirates – having won 11 games, drawn three and conceded eight defeats in 22 matches against them, scoring seven and creating 10 assists in the process.

Bandile Shandu (Orlando Pirates)

Bandile Shandu, who joined Pirates from Maritzburg United at the start of the season, is arguably the standout performer for them this campaign with one assist and six goals from the right-back position. With his current form, Shandu will be looking to continue his stellar form in the hope of netting net his first goal against the Glamour Boys, having already played them 10 times without being about to find the back of the net.

Thembinkosi Lorch (Orlando Pirates)

Although Thembinkosi Lorch is yet to score his first goal for Pirates this season, the attacker has a knack of scoring against Chiefs, having managed to score five goals and claim three assists in 12 Soweto derbies. Lorch will be roaring to bag his first goal in the biggest match in South African football.
