BETTING PREVIEW: MANCHESTER DERBY

Manchester City face arguably their most important match in the Premier League season to date as they prepare to host cross-town rivals Man United on Sunday.

You couldn’t really script a better contest to finish this weekend’s highly-anticipated round of action in the league, with the two Manchester powerhouse clubs set to go head-to-head at the Etihad.

City currently have a six point lead at the top of the Premier League standings, but that could be cut in half if Liverpool defeat West Ham on Saturday, while the Reds also have a game in hand.

MANCHESTER UNITED ARE EXPECTED TO LOSE – MATCH ODDS

There is no doubt that City manager Pep Guardiola will keep a close eye on that encounter at Anfield before looking for his team to rise to the occasion against United, who are in fourth position and desperate to keep pushing for a Champions League qualifying berth.

City will now be looking to complete the league double over Man Utd for just the second time under Guardiola, having previously done so in 2018-19, and come into this game on the back of an important 1-0 league win over Everton last weekend.

In what could also be a timely boost, Ruben Dias looks to be in line to start the Manchester derby, with Guardiola having said that the centre-back was only taken off as a precaution at half-time of Manchester City’s FA Cup win over Peterborough.

If Dias is unavailable, though, City won’t be overly concerned about relying on John Stones and Aymeric Laporte, with the defensive duo having conceded just one goal in five matches together all season.

For United, there is some concern as Edinson Cavani appears to still be out of the fold with a suspected groin injury, but inerim manager Ralf Rangnick has welcomed back Scott McTominay after he missed the last two matchday squads through illness.

Notably, Paul Pogba has been seen featuring heavily in training this week at a time when reports continue to suggest that the Frenchman is destined to leave in the summer.

There is no doubt that this is going to be a cracking contest on Sunday, with City fully aware of the pressure being applied by Liverpool in the race for title honours, while United are being chased by West Ham, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the fight for fourth.
