Manchester United came from behind to keep their place at the top of the Premier League table with rivals City tucked in just two points back.
Following Leicester City’s victory over Chelsea, both Manchester sides needed victory to maintain their status at the league’s top two sides.
In the early kick-off, Manchester City finally prevailed in an all-action encounter against Aston Villa. The blue half are now two back of the Red Devils with a game in hand.
“When we lost vs Tottenham we were 12th in the table but had lost just two games this season,” said Pep Guardiola, in reference to his side being written off to early in the season.
“But the most important thing is the fact we are back to playing (the way) we have to play since the Newcastle game. You have to show the way you play if you want to deserve to be champions – the game plan and the way you play. We created a lot.”
United for the sixth time this season came from a 1-0 deficit on the road to win. Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer once again had Paul Pogba to thank for the winner.
Pogba’s second half stunner came after Uruguayan Edinson Cavani levelled matters after he earned a rare start.
“That’s a centre-forward’s goal and you’ve got to be there to score. That’s what he does,” said Solsjkaer.
“If you just watch him, if you have a player cam on him, his movement is incredible, fantastic.
“We’ve just got to get used to using him more. In the second half when he gets his header, what a save by Areola. So it’s good to have different options up front.”
