World No 7 Ons Jabeur from Tunisia is into the last eight at Roland Garros as she chases her first Grand Slam title.
Jabeur has lost two finals – Wimbledon and the US Open – but was able to stay focused to advance to the final eight at the French Open.
BET ON THE LAST EIGHT AT ROLAND GARROS
She swept aside the hopes of Bernarda Pera 6-3 6-1 to become the first African player to make the last eight of all four Grand Slams.
Jabeur admits she is in love with the reception received from the home fans.
“Paris is always romantic, day or night. Winning here will definitely be an amazing memory for me. For now, I just want to take it one match at a time,” Jabeur told reporters after her win.
“I will have a very difficult quarter-final. I was just taking it one match at a time, trying to make it to the second week. Now I’m going to push more for the next few matches.”
Jabeur will play 14th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia for a place in the semi-finals
Last year’s runner-up Coco Gauff survived the test against Slovakian Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 7-5 6-2 in windy conditions.
She has now set up a rematch against defending champion Iga Swiatek in what will be an interesting rematch of the 2022 final at Roland Garros.
The four favourites will repay R28.39 from a R10 wager.
