Maritzburg United are out of avoid disaster when they travel to face Cape Town Spurs in the PSL Playoffs.
Both sides have beaten Casric Stars which leaves them in pole position to claim the last available place in the PSL next season.
Maritzburg United are fancied to retain their place but Shaun Bartlett has quickly whipped his side into shape.
Now he’s targeting a big win over the Team of Choice.
“This game, especially after Wednesday’s result, you can say it’s a cup final because it probably is much between the two of us pushing for that number one position,” Bartlett said when speaking to Sowetan.
“The foundation over the 30-game season was our home form, from the 15 games we won 12, drew 1 and lost two. It’s very important, but it shouldn’t overshadow the fact that it’s just a normal game but at the end of the day we want three points,” he said.
“The quicker we can wrap it up and not leave it up to the last game the better,” Bartlett told FARPost.
“For us, the other advantage is that we are playing two games at home now. So if we get six points from those games then that should seal the promotion to the DStv Premiership.”
Spurs only landed in Cape Town on Monday morning and got back to training for two hours after their landing.
“Just because we won the game yesterday doesn’t mean we stop what we have been doing,” explained Shaun Bartlett.
“Obviously for me, if you look at the match on Sunday, when we apply ourselves, do the right things and play the football that we have done throughout the season, we can get the results. That is probably the last disappointment in our game against AmaTuks.
“We didn’t do the things we normally did. Maybe it was panic or pressure from the game. But yesterday we controlled most of the game and Casric never bothered us.
“The goal is still the same. All the players at the club know that everyone is working for a contract for next season. We just have to put our foot on the ground and work as normal and get the results that we want.”
Their next two matches will be at home, to Maritzburg United on Saturday and Casric next Wednesday.
