Under-pressure Kaizer Chiefs boss Arthur Zwane has spoken out after chants from fans for his resignation.
Chiefs lost 3-2 to Golden Arrows this weekend as they continued their miserable form in the PSL.
The loss means they head into Saturday’s Soweto Derby as the underdogs and now fans appear to have lost faith in their coach.
“Look, it’s within their rights,” Zwane said after being cornered to give his thoughts about some Chiefs fans chanting for him to be fired from a job he signed a three-year deal for in May last year.
“I mean, they are disappointed. They believe we should have won this game.
“I also believe we should have wrapped it up first half. We let ourselves down, and I understand their frustration. We had a number of chances.
“Today is one game for me [that I think] we should have scored at least six from the first half, and you look at the second half.
“We ended up conceding three goals unnecessarily. But it is one of those things where you have a bad day at the office.”
Zwane, his staff and the players need protection when leaving the field this weekend as the fans became more hostile after the final whistle.
On Saturday, they face Orlando Pirates who are on the up. They have won four of their last five league games to move within two points of second place.
It is a match that Zwane can’t afford to lose.
“It’s my responsibility to lift the spirits of the guys. This one (defeat) is gone. It is history now,” he says.
“Yes, we are disappointed. We should have done better, but it did not happen [so] we move on. We now focus on the next game,” Zwane insisted.
Pirates and Chiefs clash on Saturday at the FNB Stadium at 15:30.
