Defending champions France will be the latest major team standing in the way of Morocco’s history makers.
It’s a David vs Goliath clash at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al-Khor on Wednesday evening.
France extended their title defence after they eliminated England but not before a late scare as Harry Kane missed his second penalty of the night.
Morocco dumped out Portugal by 1-0 thanks to a decisive goal from Youssef En-Nesyri at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha.
Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou: “These kinds of moments are difficult to believe, but we’ve come to change the mentality, our insecurity. Moroccan players can compete against anyone in the world.
“I think the most important thing, except the semifinal and that, is that we’ve changed that mentality and the generation after us will know that Moroccan players can do all this.”
France coach Didier Deschamps: “The ball is in my court and I will decide. I will be here for the semifinal and then we’ll see. One thing at a time.
“The president is happy. Lots of people are happy. But I want to savour being back in the last four. I am thinking about Wednesday, not about other things.”
France and Morocco have never met on the international stage.
Youssef En-Nesyri will look to emulate his previous performance for Morocco after he scored the winning goal to send his side to this stage of the tournament.
