Group C: Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland

Argentina are making their 18th appearance at the World Cup and will be looking to better 2018’s run which saw them eliminated in the Round of 16. Saudi Arabia are only making their sixth appearance

Poland are appearing for the ninth time with their best feat in the tournament coming in 1982 when they finished third. Mexico have been ever-present in the tournament as they enter the competition for the 17th time, with the quarter-final finish in 1986 being their best-placed finish in the tournament.

Best match: Poland vs Argentina

The most anticipated fixture in the group will be between Poland and Argentina when they face off at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor on 25 November.

The teams have met eleven times including twice in the World Cup, which includes Poland’s 3–2 in the group stages in 1974 and Argentina’s 2–0 win in the group stage win in 1978. It’s Messi against Lewandowski in a old Barca vs new Barca kingpin duel.

Predicted qualifiers: Argentina and Poland

Argentina are the favourites to finish top of Group C, while second and third place will be a contest between Poland and Mexico.

Saudi Arabia are expected to finish bottom of the group.

Player to watch: Lionel Messi

This is likely to be his last chance to win the World Cup and he will be hoping he can turn his club form into the national team, having already scored 12 goals and registered 14 assists in just 18 games for PSG so far this season.

Messi will be relishing the chance to add the elusive World trophy to his list of honours after he finally got his hands on the Copa America title.

Player that could surprise: Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski will be looking to redeem himself at the World Cup after the Polish striker failed to get off the mark at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. In that tournament, it was Jan Bednarek and Grzegorz Krychowiak who supplied Poland’s two goals.
