Biało-czerwoni, meanwhile, secured their first win in the group following their 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia. At last Robert Lewandowski got a World Cup goal while Piotr Zieliński also found the back of the net.

The win helped Argentina move up to second place in Group C level on three points with Saudi Arabia. Poland find themselves sitting at the top of the table with four points after two matches.

It’s going to be a mouthwatering contest.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi said: “We had to give everyone peace of mind to be able to approach the Poland game in a different way.”

Poland captain Robert Lewandowski said: “The older I get, the more emotional I get, and I’m aware that it might be my last World Cup actually.”

The two teams have met eleven times including twice in the World Cup, with Poland claiming a thrilling 3-2 win in a  group stage encounter back in 1974 before Argentina clinched a 2–0 win in a second group stage clash in 1978.

Czeslaw Michniewicz and Lionel Scaloni will be boosted by the fact that they both will have their entire squads fit and ready for this encounter with no injuries or suspensions.

Messi has played a starring role for Argentina at the World Cup and has managed to score in two consecutive matches, most recently scoring the opening goal in their win over Mexico.

Lewandowski will look to build on his previous performance for Poland after he found the back of the net in his last appearance against Saudi Arabia.
