Argentina will be out to redeem themselves and secure their first win in Group C when they take on Mexico in their next World Cup encounter at the Lusail Iconic Stadium on Saturday evening.
La Albiceleste come into this fixture looking to bounce back following their shock 2-1 defeat against Saudi Arabia.
Mexico were held to a goalless draw by Poland following Robert Lewandowski’s penalty miss at Stadium 974 in Doha.
Argentina’s defeat leaves them at the bottom of Group C with zero points, while Mexico are placed third – level on one point with second-placed Poland after the opening round of fixtures.
Argentina captain Lionel Messi said: “There are no excuses, we’re going to be more united than ever before.
“This group is strong and has shown it before. We had not been in this situation for a long time. Now we must show that this is a true group.
“This is the time to stick together, to turn the page and not think about what happened.
“We always said we were going to (try to) win every game and now more than ever.”
The two nations have previously met three times at the World Cup, with Argentina coming out victorious in all three fixtures, which includes a 6–3 group stage victory in 1930 followed by a 2-1 win in the last 16 in 2006 and a 3-1 round of 16 victory in 2010.
Lionel Scaloni and Gerardo Martino will be boosted by the fact that both teams has no new fresh injuries or suspensions to report in both camps.
Lionel Messi will be eager to forget his side’s previous result and focus on the next match after he opened his account at the World Cup with the opening goal against Saudi Arabia.
Hirving Lozano will look to get off the mark at the World Cup after he fired blanks in their draw against Poland as he looks to add to the 16 goals he’s scored in 60 appearances for Mexico since making his debut in February 2016.
