Spurs saved a late flurry from hosts Marseille to advance as top seeds in Group D of the Champions League.
The English side were behind at the break after a poor performance. It was former Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba who put his side in front but it did manage to draw a reaction from Antonio Conte’s men.
Clement Lenglet equalised in the 54th minute before the game opened up as Marseille knew only a win would see them progress.
They nearly got that winner through former Arsenal defender Saed Kolisanic with a few minutes to go but he squandered his near-free header from close range.
Pierre-Emile Hojberg then scored the winner in time added on as Spurs counter attacked with ease.
Spurs face Liverpool this weekend.
The round of 16 draw will be done next week with Spurs guaranteed to miss the Reds. No two teams from the same country can be drawn in the round of 16.
