City’s defeat sees them remain in second place in the league standings – level on 23 points with third-placed Tottenham Hotspur, while Brighton’s stalemate saw them remain in seventh place on the log with 15 points from 10 matches.

In the last two meetings between the two teams in the Premier League, Manchester City secured a commanding 4-1 victory at Brighton before cruising to a comfortable 3-0 win at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola is only expected to have two players on the injury list, which includes Kyle Walker, who is recovering from a groin injury, and Kalvin Phillips, who is sidelined with a shoulder injury.

Roberto De Zerbi will only have one player unavailable for the encounter as Jakub Moder continues to be out of action with a cruciate ligament rupture.

Erling Haaland will be roaring to go against Brighton after he failed to score a goal in a match for the first time this season, having already bagged 15 goals in 10 league appearances.

Leandro Trossard will be relishing the chance to get his name on the scoresheet after failing to find the back of the net in his last three matches, with his last goal coming when he netted a hat-trick against Liverpool.
