Liverpool are set to renew their rivalry with Everton when the two teams square off in the Merseyside derby which takes place at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds will come into this encounter off the back of a win after they secured a last-gasp 2-1 victory over a stubborn Newcastle United side after Roberto Firimino and Fábio Carvalho cancelled out Alexander Isak’s 38th minute opener at Anfield on Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, Everton were forced to share the spoils with Leeds United after they played out to a 1-1 draw when Luis Sinisterra’s 55th-minute equaliser cancelled out Anthony Gordon’s opening goal at Elland Road on Tuesday evening.

The victory saw Liverpool move up to fifth place in the league standings with eight points after five games, while Everton climbed up to 17th place on the log with just three points from five matches.

When the two sides last met in the Premier League, Liverpool got the better of Everton after they did the double over their Merseyside rivals by clinching a 4-1 victory in the first leg before claiming 2-0 win in the return leg.

Frank Lampard is expected to be without six key first team players for the encounter which includes Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate, Yerry Mina and Andros Townsend due to injury.

Jurgen Klopp, meanwhile, will be without the services of Naby Keita, Ibrahima Konate, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Calvin Ramsay, Caoimhin Kelleher and Thiago, who are all out due to their respective injuries.

Everton will be hoping Anthony Gordan can maintain his goal-scoring record of scoring the match opener in his last three appearances for the Toffees.

Meanwhile, Roberto Firmino has netted 12 of his last 14 club goals after half-time, while also scoring three in his last four appearances for the Reds.
