Liverpool will continue their preparations for the new season when they do battle with Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg at the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday.

The Reds are looking to secure their third consecutive victory during pre-season after they recently demolished RB Leipzig 5-0 through an early goal by Mohamed Salah and four goals from new signing Darwin Nunez.

Liverpool’s pre-season campaign got off to a rocky start after they suffered a shock 4-0 defeat to Premier League rivals Manchester United but they have since bounced back. A 2-0 win over Crystal Palace and a thrashing of RB Leipzig have steadied matters somewhat.

RB Salzburg, meanwhile, had a mixed start to their pre-season campaign as they began with a thrilling 3-2 defeat to Ajax, with Dusan Tadic, Muhammed Kudus and Kenneth Taylor cancelling out goals from Nicolas Capaldo and Benjamin Šeško.

The Austrian outfit managed to bounce back as they found their feet in the match that followed after they cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory over FK Austria Wien in their first Austrian Bundesliga fixture of the season with Benjamin Šeško, Fernando and Noah Okafor all finding their names on the scoresheet.

Liverpool and Red Bull Salzburg have only ever met on three occasions across all competitions with the Reds claiming two win out of three while the only other match has ended in a thrilling 2-2 stalemate.

Eyes will once again be locked on Darwin Nunez.

He has recently come under heavy criticism following his below-par performance against Manchester United but the Portuguese forward silenced the noise when he netted four goals in only his second appearance for the Reds and he will surely have his eye on the target when they take on the Austrian side.

Benjamin Šeško will be keen to continue his recent form for Salzburg after he found the back of the net twice in his last two matches against Ajax and FK Austria Wien, respectively.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is expected to remain without Diogo Jota and Alisson Becker, who are both out with injuries. Jota has a hamstring strain and the No 1 goalkeeper has an abdominal issue.

Defender Joe Gomez recently returned to training but he will have to fight the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip for a place next to Virgil van Dijk in defence.

Matthias Jaissle is expected to rotate his side following their league triumph over FK Austria Wien with Benjamin Sesko guaranteed a starting berth in the lineup despite reports linking him with a move to Newcastle United.
