Bayern Munich have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Juventus to sign Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt for a fee which could reach €80 million.
The Bundesliga giants are said to have agreed upon a five-year contract with De Ligt, which will keep the centre-back in Munich until 2027, despite interest from Premier League side Chelsea.
The Blues were front-runners in the race to capture the services of de Ligt, but now look set to miss out on the defender after he agreed on terms with the Serie A outfit.
De Ligt joined Juventus for a fee of £67.5m back in 2019 following his impressive display during his time at Ajax, where he made history by becoming the youngest captain to lead the team to the Champions League semi-final during the 2018-19 season at the age of 19-years-old.
The 22-year-old has made 117 appearances for The Old Lady and has scored eight goals for the club during his three-year spell in Italy.
The arrival of the Dutch international will help fill the void in Bayern’s defence that was left by Niklas Sule, who parted ways with the club for rivals Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer.
Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn also previously revealed that de Ligt is eager to sign for the club.
‘We had talks and the player wants to come to FC Bayern,’ CEO Kahn told Blickpunkt Sport on Saturday.
‘We’ll have more discussions and then see how it goes.’
