Gavin Hunt is on the brink of making a spectacular return to SuperSport United nearly a decade after his departure.

The four-time league winner could be the next coach as soon as Friday, according to reports. Hunt won three titles with SuperSport between 2008 and 2010 before moving across town to manage Bidvest Wits.

It was there that he wrote his name into folklore as he brought the PSL title to Wits, who have since been sold.

Following his time at Wits, he took on the task of trying to steady the Kaizer Chiefs’ ship. But he failed with the club also unable to sign players during his tenure.

He lasted less than a year and then ended up at Chippa United. He survived about six months through his first season before parting ways during the 2021/22 campaign.

Hunt will replace Kaitano Tembo and it appears likely that current caretaker Andre Arendse will remain as his assistant.

Arendse helped the club secure a Top 8 finish following Tembo’s exit.
