Manchester United’s pre-season plans have been dealt a major blow following the news that Cristiano Ronaldo has asked to leave.
The Portugal star, who was the club’s leading scorer last season despite now being 37-years-old, has told the Red Devils to accept any appropriate offer before the start of the new season.
Ronaldo was third overall on the scoring charts last season but United struggled and failed to qualify for the Champions League.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who has a year left on his contract plus an optional year, doesn’t want to play in the Europa League.
Question marks remain around how Ronaldo will fit into new manager Erik ten Hag’s plans. The ageing superstar was criticised heavily for failing to help his side defend or win back the ball.
United’s international players are due to report for training in the coming days ahead of flying to Thailand on Friday for the start of their pre-season tour.
