Chelsea lead De Ligt chase

Chelsea are willing to €45 million plus Timo Werner in an attempt to sign defender Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus.

The Dutch international has been identified as one of Thomas Tuchel’s top priority target for this summer as they look to bolster their defence for the season ahead.

It was previously reported that Sevilla defender Jules Koude was the Blues’ main target but following their departure of Marina Granovskaia, De Light has become their number one priority.

The 22-year-old defender has a £103m (€120m) release clause in his Juventus contract, which is set to expire in 2024, and the club will only entertain offers close to that mark.

However, Juventus have decided that they want to sign Werner as part of any deal with Chelsea for De Light. The Italian giants are keen on the German international as they believe they have what it takes to revive Werner’s career following two underwhelming seasons in West London.

Chelsea will hope that the player’s stance could see the price drop even more as they look to replace Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer, with Tuchel looking to add at least two central defenders to his side ahead of next season, with De Ligt edging closer to Stamford Bridge this summer.
