Stellenbosch FC and Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to return to winning ways in the DStv Premiership when they do battle at the Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Stellies will come into this fixture looking to bounce back after they conceded a 1-0 defeat to Chippa United in their last league game after Sammy Seabi’s 74th-minute goal proved to be the difference in the match played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium this past Sunday.

Chiefs marked the return of fans to the FNB Stadium with a defeat in their last after they went down 1-0 to SuperSport united side in the DStv Premiership on Saturday as Thamsanqa Gabuza’s second-half goal settled the contest in Johannesburg.

The result saw Amakhosi drop down to fourth place in the league standings as they remain on 39 points, a point behind third-place Cape Town City, five behind Royal AM in second and trail log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by 18 points.

Pre-Match Comments:

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter: “With our support, we should make this [FNB Stadium] a fortress.

“Our midset is not that at the moment, instead, our mindset is that of anxiety.

“I don’t know exactly why but I said earlier that the Chiefs shirt can weigh heavy. When the player thinks of themselves or fans think that they’re not up to the required standard.

“Is it a concern, absolutely, and we have to ask ourselves why is that and then that will be something to fix in the walls of our training ground.”

Head-To-Head:

In head-to-head stats between the two teams, Stellies and Amakhosi cannot be divided in their last five matches as both teams have won one apiece, while three matches have ended in stalemates.

Steve Barker and Stuart Baxter are both expected to have no injuries or suspensions on the cards for the upcoming clash at the Danie Craven Stadium as they will have all the players available for the match.

Stellenbosch ace Ashley Du Preez will be looking to get his name back on the score sheet after failing to find the back of the net in his last encounter against Chippa with his last coming in their 2-0 win over Golden Arrows at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on April 6.

With six goals and eight assists in 20 league appearances, Billiat will be determined to end his four-match goal drought in the league after he last found the back of the net against Baroka at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on 26 February.
