Orlando Pirates will be gunning for second place in the DStv Premiership standings when they travel to Baroka FC in their next fixture at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Baroka are hoping to secure their first win in three matches since their win over TS Galaxy at the beginning of last month after they scummed to a narrow 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu in Polokwane conceding a goal through Luvuyo Memela, which proved to be the only goal of the game.
Bakgaga will now come into this fixture sitting at the foot of the league table with 17 points from 24 games, five points away from Chippa United in the safety zone.
Orlando Pirates will be relishing the chance to secure their third consecutive win in the league after they edged out Sekhukhune United 1-0 at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening after substitute Fortune Makaringe scored the winning goal to hand his side all three points.
Despite walking away with all three points, the Buccaneers dropped down to fifth place on the log following Cape Town City’s four-match winning run, which saw them claim the fourth spot.
In the last five meetings between the two teams, four out of five matches have ended on level peggings, while the Buccaneers won the only other game when they secured a 2-1 victory over Bakgaga at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on 2 June 2021 after Gabadinho Mhango and Terrence Dzvukamanja handed the Soweto giants all three points as Denwin Farmer’s opener proved to be a consolation goal.
Kgoloko Thobejane will have three players on three yellow cards coming into the games with Sekela Sithole, Tshepo Mokhabi and Vusi Sibiya one card away from a match suspension, while Mandla Ncikazi will have his entire squad available without having to worry about players suspensions heading into the match.
Evidence Makgopa is looking to rediscover his form in the league and get his name on the score sheet, having last found the back of the net against Royal AM in July last year.
Kwame Peprah, who has become a regular in the Pirates first team, will like his chances against Baroka after scoring five goals in his last seven matches in the DStv Premiership.
