Mamelodi Sundowns are aiming to stretch their lead at the top of the DStv Premiership even further when they travel to the Harry Gwala Stadium to face Maritzburg United on Saturday afternoon.

Maritzburg United will look to claim their first win in two games after they were edged out 2-1 by Golden Arrows at the Harry Gwala Stadium when a brace by Knox Mutizwa cancelled out Bulelani Ndengane’s equaliser on 25 February.

The Team of Choice currently sits in 12th place in the league standings with 18 points after they won one game and suffered defeats in their last three matches. Maritzburg first lost 1-0 to SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup before exacting their revenge by claiming a 2-1 win over United but they were unable to continue their winning momentum after they were undone by Golden Arrows.

MARITZBURG UNITED ARE 6-1 TO WIN

Mamelodi Sundowns recently extended their lead as leaders of the DStv Premiership to 18 points following their commanding 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday evening.

BET ON THIS FIXTURE NOW

The Tshwane giants sit comfortably at the top of the league standings with 51 points after 22 matches and are unbeaten in their last three games, having first played out to a goalless draw against Al-Merrikh before clinching a vital 1-0 win over Al Ahly before cruising to a comfortable 3-0 win over TS Galaxy in their previous match.

In the last five meetings between the two teams, Sundowns have the advantage over Maritzburg, having won three, while the Team of Choice have not won a game against the Brazilians since their 3-1 win in the Nedbank Cup on 22 April 2018, although they have played to two draws in their last five matches.

Maritzburg’s Alfred Ndengane will be relishing the chance to add to his goal tally and rediscover his form after he scored his side’s only goal in their recent defeat to Golden Arrows.

The in-form Peter Shalulile will be hoping to continue his current momentum in the next match after ending his goal drought by getting his name on the score sheet against TS Galaxy in Sundowns’ last match.

Team of Choice boss Ernst Middendorp can look forward to having a fresh and well-rested squad ready for the clash with no injuries or suspension, having last played on 25 February, while Sundowns co-coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena will monitor the injury situations of Erwin Saavedra and Thabiso Kutumela, while Lebohang Maboe remains sidelined with a long-term injury.
