Chelsea and Manchester United will be aiming to do the double over Malmo FF and Atalanta when they do battle in the return leg of the Champions League on matchday four on Tuesday.
Malmo FF vs Chelsea
Thomas Tuchel’s side are hoping to book their place in the Champions League round of 16 when they travel to the Eleda Stadion to face Swedish outfit Malmo in the return leg of their Group H encounter.
The Blues will come into this encounter in great form after they stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League table to three points over Liverpool following their 3-0 victory over Newcastle United at St James Park this past weekend thanks to a brace from Reece James and a second half penalty by Jorginho.
Meanwhile, Malmo will head into this game off the back of a thrilling 3-2 victory over IK Sirius at the Studenternas in the Allsvenskan in their previous match over the weekend after a goal from Jo Inge Berget and a brace by Antonio Colak panelled out goals from Nahom Girmai Netabay and Edi Sylisufaj.
Chelsea are unbeaten in their seven meetings with Swedish teams to date, winning four and drawing three against them across all competitions, with the last match between the two sides ending in a 4-0 victory in favour of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The defending champions currently occupy second place in the Group H standings, while the Swedish outfit sits at the foot of the group yet to claim their first point after three matches.
Atalanta vs Manchester United
Manchester United will be aiming to take a step towards securing their qualification to the known stages of the Champions League when they play Atalanta at Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will be hungry for their second straight win in all competitions after they returned to winning ways by securing a comfortable 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Stadium through goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, meanwhile, were forced to settle for a point apiece after playing out to a 2-2 draw with Lazio in their previous match at at Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia over the weekend when Duvan Zapata and Marten de Roon cancelled out Pedro and Ciro Immobile’s goals.
The Serie A outfit have only won one out of five games against English teams in the Champions League with their only victory coming away to Liverpool last season. Atalanta side were beaten 3-2 in their last meeting with United, despite taking a 2-0 lead in the game.
United’s win in their previous Champions League match saw them climb to the top of the Group F standings with six points, while Atalanta are in third place on four points with second placed Villarreal after three games.
