Two unbeaten teams from the Cape meet in PSL action this weekend as Cape Town City host Stellenbosch FC in a crunch league encounter.
Saturday’s fixture puts City, in sixth but having a game in hand over most of their rivals, against Stellenbosch, who arrive in third.
City have been bolstered by the return to fitness of Thabo Nodada and Fagrie Lakay. Nodada has not played since his injury in the MTN8 win over Amazulu and remains an instrumental part of the club. Lakay’s arrival only adds to Eric Tinkler’s attacking options and they will need to try many avenues to break down Stellenbosch’s plucky defence.
The winelands side earned a credible draw in their league opener against Orlando Pirates and have added a draw and a win since then to enjoy a very positive start to the campaign.
They have also managed to score in every game which should put City on red alert for this home tie at the Athlone Stadium.
This rivalry has seen Stellenbosch grab the upper hand as the relative newcomers to this level continue to punch above their weight. They have won two of the three contests with City notching up one victory in the short history between the two clubs.
Tinkler’s men have enjoyed a good start to the season but a hiccup at home could prove a very nasty blow to their momentum. He will no doubt be looking to avoid any mistakes at the back and capitalise on his forward options to ensure his side enjoy bragging rights and a move higher up the table.
