Riyad Mahrez was also on target for the champions Manchester City, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s return to the Arsenal team after recovering from Covid-19 didn’t go as well.

The Gabon striker came off the bench but couldn’t prevent Chelsea winning 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.
After missing the Gunners’ opening weekend loss to Brentford the Arsenal captain couldn’t prevent another loss for his team.
GEOFFREY KONDOGBIA (Atletico Madrid)
The Spanish Champions beat Elche 1-0 to go top of La Liga with their Central African Republic defensive midfielder again at the heart of the miserly defence.
They restricted Elche to just two attempts on target during the whole encounter.
The 28-year-old French-born star at hte heart of their display. “Great game from Kondogbia,” wrote Madrid sports paper Marca in their live blog.
HAMED TRAORE (Sassuolo)
The young Ivory Coast under-23 midfielder sealed Sassoulo’s opening day 3-2 win at Verona with a curling strike.
Traore moved to Italy as a youngster and has enjoyed a great start to his career with 10 goals in 67 games for his club with the 21-year-old attracting admiring looks from Juventus amongst other Serie A clubs.
TAIWO AWONIYI (Union Berlin)
The former Liverpool striker scored his 4th goal in 3 games in all competitions to secure a point for Union Berlin at Hoffenheim. The Nigerian followed up his initial parried shot to put away a tidy volley.
ANDY DELORT (Montpellier)
Algerian striker Andy Delort was on the winning team for Montpellier as they thrashed Lorient 3-1. Delort scored his first of the season and assisted another goal.
The 2019 AFCON winner has been heavily linked with a move to Nice or Lyon following his 19-goal season last year.
SAIDOU SOW (Saint-Etienne)
The young 19-year-old Guinea defender scored his first senior goal for Saint-Ettiene. It was a memorable goal that helped secure a 1-1 draw against current Ligue 1 champions Lille.
