AC Milan will start as favourites to emerge from this titanic clash as Manchester United’s Europa League hopes hang in the balance.
Simon Kjaer’s late away goal in Manchester has the Rossoneri on pole at the San Siro. That goal means United must find the net at least once on Thursday … and it will be up Marcus Rashford to lead the line in the absence of Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani.
The English forward is aware of the size of the task at hand.
“I think we’ll go there to score goals and to win the game and we see it as a game for what it is. Basically, right now, it’s a one-off game and whoever scores goals is going to go through. We’ll go there with that mentality,” he says.
Milan’s form has been poor. A loss at the weekend means they have just two wins to boast from their last nine in all competitions. That run came as they played without one-time United player Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who may be on the bench tonight.
Milan are also ready to present a stronger lineup with Hakan Calhanoglu and Theo Hernandez now fit. On the other side, Paul Pogba could feature for the Red Devils while Donny van der Beek is likely to play a role too.
This one is tough to call … AC Milan will play bigger names than in the side that earned a 1-1 draw in England but United have an outstanding record on the road.
Expect a cagey affair as United know conceding a goal would turn their already big task into a mammoth one.
