South Africa’s AB de Villiers helped his side to a successful start as the Royal Challengers Bangalore beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 10 runs.
De Villiers was the star of the show at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium as he blitzed 51 off 30 balls.
After a circumspect start, the former Proteas captain hit fifth gear with 2 sixes and 4 fours. His knock helped RCB overcome Virat Kohli’s wobble – he was out for 14 off 13 – and post a competitive 163/5.
The Sunrisers were looking set for victory until Jonny Bairstow’s departure (61 off 43) sparked a collapse.
De Villier’s countryman and teammate Dale Steyn took 1/33 in 3.4 overs.
