Durban City enter the cup match after progressing to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage. They beat AS Port Louis 2000 3–0 away in Mauritius on 25 October, completing a 6–1 aggregate win. That result provides recent evidence of the side’s attacking effectiveness, although a knockout tie against Stellenbosch presents a different challenge.

Defender Fezile Gcaba has particular history in this competition: he scored a hat-trick as Durban City defeated Polokwane City 4–1 in last season’s round of 16. He featured in the club’s latest preview and spoke about the importance of preparing properly for Stellenbosch. Coach Eric Tinkler’s final selection will only be known when the teams are announced.

Stellenbosch approach the tie with recent Carling Knockout pedigree. They won the competition in 2023 and progressed to the quarter-finals in each of the following two editions. Goalkeeper Sage Stephens has highlighted the importance of rebuilding continuity in a squad that has changed since the club’s previous triumph.

Coach Gavin Hunt has previously discussed injury disruption during October, but the club has not confirmed a complete Durban City vs Stellenbosch team news and availability list for this match in the sources reviewed. Any Durban City vs Stellenbosch lineups circulating before the official team sheets should therefore be treated as possible selections, not confirmed starting elevens.

The Durban City vs Stellenbosch H2H is unusually close. Durban City’s official pre-match report states that all three previous meetings ended level. Their Durban City vs Stellenbosch last match in the league on 1 September 2026 ended 0–0 at Chatsworth Stadium.

That history does not establish what will happen in a knockout fixture. It does, however, underline how little has separated the sides. Rather than relying on broad claims about Stellenbosch being favourites, the more relevant question is whether either team can create clearer chances than in the previous goalless meeting.

For Durban City, the challenge is to turn home possession and territory into opportunities without leaving space behind the ball. Their recent continental victory gives Tinkler useful options in attack, but it does not guarantee a similar scoreline against Gavin Hunt’s side.

Stellenbosch will aim to stay compact and make their moments in transition count. Set pieces, defensive concentration and the first goal could all influence how the last-16 tie develops. These are match considerations rather than an editorial score prediction.
