PSG vs Lyon: Rescheduled Ligue 1 Preview, Kick-Off and Team News

PSG vs Lyon will kick off at 21:30 South African time on Monday, 26 October 2026, after the Ligue 1 Matchday 8 fixture was moved from Sunday because of security restrictions in Paris. Paris Saint-Germain welcome Olympique Lyonnais to the Parc des Princes for a meeting between the top two sides in the pre-match league table.

The change was announced by France’s Professional Football League after a Paris police order prevented the match going ahead on its original date. Both teams entered the weekend level on 14 points after seven matches, with Lyon ahead on goal difference. PSG are attempting to return to the top, while Lyon are looking to build on their 2–1 win at the same stadium in April.

The French league confirmed the new date after authorities prohibited the original Sunday fixture amid public-order and security concerns. South Africa is one hour ahead of France on the revised match date, when France observes Central European Time (CET), rather than summer time.

PSG confirmed after their 4–2 Champions League victory over Barcelona that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and requires surgery. Ousmane Dembélé is undergoing treatment for a left-thigh injury, while captain Marquinhos is receiving treatment for a right-thigh injury. All three are major absences from Luis Enrique’s preparations.

The Ligue 1 pre-match guide also listed Nuno Mendes among PSG’s main absentees. Luis Enrique said the squad must adapt collectively to losing important players. PSG have not confirmed their starting eleven for this game.

Ligue 1’s pre-match briefing named Pavel Šulc, Loïs Openda, Keito Nakamura, Nicolás Tagliafico and Assan Ouédraogo among Lyon’s notable absentees. Availability remains subject to the final teamsheet. Paulo Fonseca’s selection will show how he plans to balance midfield control with a threat on the counter-attack.

PSG have won four consecutive Ligue 1 fixtures, including a 3–1 victory at Strasbourg on 17 October. They followed it by beating Barcelona 4–2 in the Champions League on 20 October, although that European result also came with significant injury setbacks.

Lyon have lost just once in their first seven Ligue 1 matches. The two clubs held 14 points apiece in the league’s pre-match briefing, with Lyon first on goal difference and PSG second. That makes this meeting important for the early-season leadership of the division without deciding the title race.

Lyon won 2–1 at the Parc des Princes in April 2026, ending a sequence of six consecutive PSG victories over Lyon in all competitions. According to Ligue 1’s pre-match analysis, PSG had nevertheless won nine of the previous 11 meetings before that Lyon success. The recent record provides context, but neither side’s previous results determine Monday’s outcome.

Without Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé, PSG must adjust their chance creation and movement in the final third. Luis Enrique’s system still seeks to progress the ball through midfield and regain possession quickly, but individual combinations may change.

Lyon’s April win in Paris showed their ability to compete in this fixture. Paulo Fonseca’s side will need to manage pressure around their own penalty area and choose when to press or break forward. The contest between the midfield units may be as consequential as the finishing of either forward line.

PSG played Barcelona on Tuesday, 20 October, while both sides have faced a congested domestic and European calendar. The rescheduling gives a changed recovery window; how managers use substitutions and available squad depth will be worth watching.
