SportPesa Brand Ambassador Brad Binder heads to Austria with strong memories, improving KTM form and a circuit that plays directly to his strengths.
There are some circuits that simply fit a rider. For Brad Binder, the Red Bull Ring is one of them.
The South African heads into this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix at a circuit where he has already written one of the great chapters of his MotoGP career. It is also home territory for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, giving Binder and the RC16 a familiar stage at a point in the season when KTM has been showing serious race pace.
Austria is Round 15 of the 2026 MotoGP World Championship and Binder arrives in Spielberg 13th in the standings on 83 points. But the championship table only tells part of the story.
Binder has scored points in each of the last nine Grands Prix, putting together a run built around consistency and his ability to make progress when the racing starts.
That was on display again at Misano last weekend.
Starting 19th, Binder worked his way through the field to finish 11th and was still attacking Fabio Quartararo for a place inside the top ten late in the race. It was another example of a quality South African MotoGP fans know well: give Binder a race distance and he tends to find a way forward.
And now comes Austria.

Binder’s relationship with the Red Bull Ring needs little introduction.
In 2021, rain began falling during the closing stages of the Austrian Grand Prix. Most of the leading riders headed into pit lane to swap onto bikes fitted with wet-weather tyres.
Binder stayed out.
On slick tyres.
It remains one of MotoGP’s great gambles.
Binder somehow managed a rapidly deteriorating track, kept the KTM upright and crossed the line first, ahead of Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin.
It was his second MotoGP victory and delivered one of the defining images of his career: Binder nursing the RC16 around a soaking Red Bull Ring while almost everyone around him had decided discretion was the better option.
The result also strengthened a relationship with KTM that goes far deeper than his time in MotoGP.
Binder has completed his entire premier-class career aboard the KTM RC16. He won the 2016 Moto3 World Championship with KTM, progressed through Moto2 and then delivered KTM’s first MotoGP victory at Brno during his rookie season in 2020.
The 2026 season is his 12th wearing KTM colours in Grand Prix racing.
Few rider-manufacturer relationships in modern MotoGP have endured like it.
Spielberg is where that partnership gets to race at home.

There are also practical reasons for Binder to look forward to Austria.
The Red Bull Ring is only 4.35 kilometres long, but it demands plenty from both rider and motorcycle. Eight right-hand corners, three left-handers, significant elevation changes and an 810-metre straight create a circuit dominated by acceleration, braking and getting the motorcycle stopped cleanly before driving hard towards the next corner.
Those are useful ingredients for Binder.
He has made his MotoGP reputation through hard braking, committed overtaking and an ability to compete deep into races. At a circuit offering several genuine braking opportunities, those strengths matter.
Binder himself was already looking towards Spielberg after Misano.
“It’s a track that I think will suit my style a bit more and the bike too,” he said after Sunday’s race.
That is perhaps the most interesting part of this weekend.
Binder has spent recent Grands Prix demonstrating what he can do when racing through the field. Austria presents an opportunity to combine that ability with a circuit that he believes is naturally better suited to both himself and the RC16.
There is another reason to watch the orange bikes closely.
KTM heads home with evidence that its MotoGP package can fight at the front.
Pedro Acosta finished second at Aragon before following it with third place at Misano last weekend, his fifth podium of the 2026 season. At Misano, KTM riders also took eighth, 11th and 14th, with all four RC16s scoring points.
Acosta’s podiums are important for Binder too.
They show what is available from the current RC16 when rider, circuit and setup come together. And the next circuit happens to be one Binder already believes should play more strongly to his strengths.
For a rider who has repeatedly made up significant ground on Sundays, the opportunity is obvious: put the #33 closer to the action at the beginning and let Binder do what Binder does over a Grand Prix distance.
Spielberg has seen it before.

The memories of 2021 will inevitably follow Binder around the Red Bull Ring this weekend.
They should.
It was an extraordinary victory, built on instinct, courage and a willingness to make a decision that almost nobody else was prepared to make.
But this weekend does not need to be sold on nostalgia.
There is enough happening in the present.
Binder has now scored in nine consecutive Grands Prix. At Misano he moved from 19th to 11th. KTM arrives on the back of consecutive podium finishes with Acosta. And Binder believes the Red Bull Ring offers a better fit for both his riding style and his motorcycle.
Then there is the simple fact that this remains a place where Binder knows he can win.
For South African MotoGP fans, that makes the Austrian Grand Prix one of the weekends to circle on the calendar.
The #33 is back at the Red Bull Ring.
KTM is racing at home.
And Brad Binder has already shown exactly what can happen in Spielberg when opportunity arrives.
