Brief Orlando Pirates history
Orlando Pirates were founded as Orlando Boys Club by a group of teenagers, encouraged by boxing instructor Andries “Pele Pele” Mkhwanazi. In 1944, the team won the Division Two title and gained promotion to Division One. Andrew Bassie proposed the name “Pirates” in the same year.
