A large crowd is expected to cheer on the Team of Choice, who must win to stay in the top flight. A draw is good enough for Shaun Bartlett’s men, who beat Maritzburg United in the home leg.

Maritzburg kept their hopes alive with a 2-0 win over Casric Stars on Saturday.

And the match couldn’t have bigger consequences.

Relegation has been known to knock R35 million off the club’s valuation while PSL clubs get R2.5 million per month as a grant from the league.

It’s a match worth winning for sure.

Maritzburg coach Fadlu Davids lauded the club’s fans for their unwavering support this season and made the plea to fill up the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday.

“They came behind us, they lifted the team,” Davids said.

“You know to travel all this way, to fill up two busses, it’s unbelievable.”

“They have been our driving force this entire season, we’ve let them down on many occasions. Thirty points, not making it on goal difference, we conceded in the last minute so many times, that was points that would have kept us alive.

“They’ve been with us through everything and now to travel here, it’s unbelievable.

“I plea now to them, who travelled here, to bring your family and lets fill up Harry Gwala Stadium.”

Perhaps the memories of the late Clive Barker will lift the home team?

“He was an icon and the role he played in helping Bafana win the Afcon in 1996 will always remain in our hearts,” chairman Farook Kadodia told News24 KwaMhlanga on Saturday afternoon.

“We’re very happy that he was here with us when we started the club in 2003 and in the two initial seasons he spent with us, he helped build the club’s brand.

“He was the icon that people used to identify the club, from where the foundation of support was laid because of his name.

“Clive will always be remembered in the hearts of all Maritzburg people.”

Maritzburg United was also the last club Barker coached at.
