Cape Town City will look to wrap up a MTN8 spot with a good result over the struggling Richards Bay outfit on Saturday.

City’s stop-start season is nearly over. Once firmly in the race for a top three place, they look likely to settle for fifth place on the table.

The form guide of Richards Bay suggests a big win for Cape Town City. The away side have not won in 12 games following their 3-2 defeat by relegation threatened Chippa United.

Richards Bay were in second place for large parts of the opening half of the season before their bubble burst.

This match, though, has been moved from the DHL Stadium to Athlone Stadium due to the Stormers rugby game.

The match kicks off at 3pm.

All eyes will be on Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo, who has been one of the standout players domestically this campaign. He has 11 goals in all competitions and has attracted interest from his father’s former club – of course, Patrick Mayo was a legend at Kaizer Chiefs.

City boss Eric Tinkler is happy to see his side not have to play in African competitions next season. He has been outspoken about the poor standard of refereeing when playing away from home.

Tinkler says: “Not after our last game this season, what happened there, I think it was diabolical and if that’s what that football is about then I would rather not get involved and that’s my honest opinion,” he adamantly said.

“I’d rather not be involved in situations like that because there’s a lot of money we have to spend to go into these competitions, and clubs have to take it out of their pockets because they’re not sponsored by CAF in the preliminary rounds.”
