Chippa host Swallows in the PSL this weekend with the visitors sweating over the availability of their goalkeeper.
Swallows are desperate for a work permit for Nigerian international goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, who they will likely start for their trip to Chippa United at the weekend if it arrives on time.
He has been waiting for four weeks for the paperwork to be approved andcoach Ernst Middendorp is hopeful of a breakthrough ahead of Sunday’s match in Gqeberha.
Swallows recently signed the Zimbabwe striker Tawanda Macheke from Maritzburg United but received his work permit last week and were able to field him for the first time when they lost 2-0 to Cape Town City in the DStv Premiership.
Thakasani Mbanjwa and Sanele Tshabalala have been deemed surplus to requirements for the Dube Birds.
If Akpeyi plays on Sunday, it will be against a former club.
He spent three and a half seasons at Chippa before joining Chiefs in January 2019.
Kaizer Chiefs released him at the end of last season, but not before he turned out for them in the 2021 African Champions League final.
