SuperSport United

Royal AM will be hoping to keep SuperSport United’s morale low when they welcome them for a PSL contest on Saturday.

SuperSport were bundled out of the Nedbank Cup by ABC Motsepe outfit, Dondol Stars, who became the first side this season to slay a giant who ply their trade in the top-flight.

The shock loss, don’t forget SuperSport opened the scoring before losing 2-1, was their first in 3 games and came after they beat Cape Town City 2-0 to move into second place on the log.

Royal AM needed penalties to edge Cape Town City 4-3 in their Last 32 match at the DHL Stadium on Sunday. The home side start in ninth with just one win in their last four league outings.

SuperSport boss Gavin Hunt thinks his squad is imbalanced after their wobbly patch of form.

“It is not easy to have a good balance of the squad because we obviously must be clever in the market and get the team balanced,” said Hunt.

“We need to get the better balance in terms of strikers, we can’t have four number nines, we need a number 10 type of a striker to balance the strikers, same as wide players, same as covers and centre-backs.

“We have been a little bit thin in those positions because of injuries.”

And the SuperSport United boss has injury concerns mounting too.

“We are really struggling to put the back-four together,” adds Hunt.

“Luke Fleurs is injured. We have all three centre-backs being out, we can’t be losing Tyson and TT (Thatayaone Ditlhokwe), we need cover.

“The absence of Tyson (Thulani Hlatshwayo) is a huge blow to us, he had a big concussion and concussions are always dangerous especially when you are playing in that area of the pitch heading the ball, so we are going to have to look and see what’s the story.”
