La Celeste, meanwhile, are still on the hunt for their first win in the group after they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Portugal.

Ghana moved up to second place in Group H with three points from two games, while Uruguay’s defeat leaves them at the foot of the group – level on one point with third-placed South Korea.

A win for Ghana will have them into the knockout stage at the expense of Uruguay. A draw would probably also be good enough although they are out for revenge.

The two teams have only ever met once before, with Uruguay clinching a quarter-final win on penalties at the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa. On that occasion, Luis Suarez provoked the continent with a deliberate handball that denied Ghana a goal. Asamoah Gyan missed the following penalty.

Otto Addo has no injury or suspensions to worry about for this clash as his side are fully fit, while Diego Alonso will be without the likes of defender Ronald Araújo, who continues to recover from a tendon injury.

Mohammed Kudus will be relishing the chance to showcase his talent once again for Ghana after he scored a brace in their thrilling 3-2 victory over South Korea.

Darwin Núñez will look to get off the mark at the World Cup and open his account for Uruguay, who are yet to score a single goal in this edition of the tournament.
