Les Bleu are still in search of their first win in A Group 1 and are on a four-match winless run following their narrow 1-0 defeat to Croatia thanks to a fifth-minute penalty by Luka Modric at the Stade de France in their previous match.

Austria, meanwhile, have only claimed one win in the group stages and are currently on a three-game winless run after they fell to a 2-0 victory at the hands of Denmark through goals by Jonas Wind and Andreas Skov Olsen at Parken Stadium.

France currently finds themselves sitting at the foot of the table with just two points from their first four matches, while Austria occupies third place with four points from four matches.

When France and Austria squared off in the first leg of the group stages both teams were forced to settle for a point after they played out to a 1-1 at the Ernst Happel Stadium when Kylian Mbappe cancelled out Andreas Weimann’s opener.

Kylian Mbappe has been the driving force for France up front and has scored the final goal on four of his last five international scoring appearances, including in the reverse against Austria.

Meanwhile the 2021 Austrian footballer of the year David Alaba has won four of his seven games against Mbappé at the club level, which could prove crucial in helping his side keep the PSG star at bay.
