Kaizer Chiefs will be determined to claim their first win in the DStv Premiership when they welcome Maritzburg United to the FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Glamour Boys got their campaign off to a rocky start after they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Dan Malesela’s Royal AM side after Ricardo Nascimento scored the decisive goal at the Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Team of Choice, meanwhile, earned themselves a point after they were held to a 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday after Bongani Sam cancelled out Tshegofatso Mabasa’s 15th-minute opener.
The defeat leaves Amakhosi sitting in 13th place in the league standings with no points, Maritzburg’s draw sees them currently occupy sixth place on the table with one point after one match.
“I’m telling you now, we’re rebuilding this team and we’re going to get it right,” Arthur Zwane said.
“We’re going to win some games and we’re going to win with flair and win much better. Even today (Saturday) we were a better team by far.
“We did everything in terms of creating the goalscoring opportunities. The ball was not going to go in and ja, that was the unfortunate part.
“I think the boys executed themselves very well in terms of taking more chances and if the goalkeeper could be the man-of-the-match it means we were unfortunate. We had about two or three one-on-ones and there are those that were cleared off the goal line in the first half.
“I think we were still in a relaxed mode when we conceded the goal.
“I think it was one minute into the game. So we need to take this more like a wake-up call for us. I think we can learn from this. We need to be switched on from the first whistle. But a lot of positives taken out of this match.”
When Amakhosi met Maritzburg in the DStv Premiership last season, Chiefs managed to do the double over the Team of Choice by first claiming a 1-0 win at the Harry Gwala Stadium before claiming a comfortable 2-0 victory at the FNB Stadium in the return leg to walk away with a maximum of six points in th two-legged fixture.
Arthur Zwane will only be without the services of midfielder Phathutshedzo Nange, who will be suspended for the upcoming match, while John Maduka has no injuries or suspensions to report from his camp as they continue preparations for the match.
Yusuf Maart is relishing the chance to prove himself at Chiefs as he looks to find the same form that earned him a call-up to the South African national team set-up following his stellar performance for Sekhukhune United last season.
On loan left back Bongani Sam will be looking to find the back of the net in his second consecutive league game after scoring the equalising goal in their draw with Sekhukhune United over the weekend.
