Marc Cucurella has agreed to sign for Chelsea despite advanced interest from Premier League champions Manchester City.
The defender joined Brighton for £15m last summer and was named as the club’s player of the season after impressing in his debut campaign.
Manchester City failed with a £30m bid for the left-back which left the door open for Chelsea to succeed with a £50m asking price.
The Spaniard had handed in a transfer request last Friday as he tried to join City but with the asking price not match, he will now join Chelsea.
The Blues are future proofing their squad with doubts surrounding the future of left-back Marcos Alonso, with Barcelona reportedly wanting to sign the 31-year-old this summer.
Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta is also wanted by the Spanish giants with the defender having one year left on his deal.
