TS Galaxy have officially completed the signing of former Mamelodi Sundowns star player Sibusiso Vilakazi as they look to further bolster their squad for the 2022-23 season.
The 32-year-old joins the Rockets as a free agent following his departure from the defending DStv Premiership champions.
Vilakazi’s contract with the Brazilians expired at the end of June this year and the club opted against triggering the option in his contract that would’ve extended his stay for another season.
The Bafana Bafana international now becomes Galaxy’s marquee signing during the current transfer window and is the second player to join the club following the arrival of former Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu midfielder Xola Mlambo, who was confirmed a few hours earlier.
Vilakazi struggled for regular game-time at Sundowns and was reduced to only featuring in 11 matches across all competitions during the 2021-22 season.
He now leaves the club having won five league titles, one MTN8 trophy and a Caf Super Cup title, while scoring 29 goals and registering 21 assists in 138 appearances in all competitions in his six-year stay at Chloorkop.
The Rockets has since released the following statement on the arrival of marquee signing Sibusiso ‘Villa’ Vilakazi, which reads:
“TS Galaxy Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Sibusiso “Villa” Vilakazi.”
“The Bafana Bafana international was a free agent after he cut ties with Mamelodi Sundowns.
“Vilakazi will join the Rockets at camp in Pietermaritzburg this coming weekend. Earlier, today, Galaxy captured the signature of Xola Mlambo.
“The lanky attacker is expected to help the Rockets in front of goals. He can operate as a number 10 or as an out-and-out striker.
“Vilakazi is the former Premier Soccer League (PSL) Footballer of the Season (PSL).”
