Spain and Portugal will open their UEFA Nations League campaigns with a mouthwatering fixture at Estadio Benito Villamarin on Thursday.
The two teams are set to squad off in Seville after they were drawn in League A Group 2 alongside the likes of the Czech Republic and Switzerland.
Spain will come into this encounter on a six-match winning run across all competitions following their 5-0 hammering of Iceland in their previous match courtesy of braces by Álvaro Morata and Pablo Sarabia, and a goal from Yéremy Pino at the Riazor Stadium on 29 March 2022.
Portugal, meanwhile, are on a two-match winning run after claiming a 2-0 win over North Macedonia in the World Cup qualification playoffs match played as Bruno Fernandes’ brace was enough to secure the win at the Estádio do Dragão on 29 March 2022.
Spain and Portugal have played out to goalless draws in their last two meetings with their previous competitive encounter coming at the 2018 World Cup, which ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw during the group stages.
Spain coach Luis Enrique will be without the services of Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte, who pulled out of the squad due to a knee problem, while Barcelona midfielder Pedri is also a notable absentee through injury.
Portugal mentor Fernando Santos is expected to be without Manchester City defender Ruben Dias who is out through injury and will be replaced by Danilo in the heart of the defence.
