BETTING PREVIEW: STELLENBOSCH vs CAPE TOWN CITY

Cape Town City are looking to end the campaign in second place but need a positive result against Stellenbosch FC in their final DStv Premiership fixture at the Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Stellies will come into this fixture high in confidence after they humiliated champions Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 at the ABSA Tuks Stadium through a brace by Ashley Du Preez and a goal from Jayden Adams in their last league encounter.

BET ON THE PSL FINAL DAY

The Citizens are on a 13 game unbeaten run across all competition despite playing out to a goalless draw against AmaZulu in the previous round at the DHL Stadium on Saturday.

BET ON THE CAPE DERBY NOW

The winelands side are currently placed fifth on the table with 44 points from 29 games, trailing second-placed City by five points as they head into the final game of the season.

Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker says: “That was our objective [to finish in the top eight], I’m really proud of what we achieved, we have one more game, big derby against Cape Town City, so ja let’s bring it on.

CT CITY FC WILL START AS FAVOURITES

“Publicly it was always top eight [ambition] but deep within our soul and our heart we believed that if we finish the league strongly, there’s an outside possibility of a top-four finish.”

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler adds: “We were nowhere near our best that night. We were still struggling defensively in terms of our structure, in terms of playing collectively in front and at the back in terms of the way I wanted the team to play.

“We weren’t very good on the night, and they hurt us on the counter in terms of their pace. I think we have learnt, we’ve got a lot better at that. We know how to play against teams with speed. I think we showed that against Sundowns, in terms of Shalulile and the runs he makes. We kept him very quiet.

“(Ashley) Du Preez is always a threat. He is always a danger, and that’s how they hurt Sundowns on the counter. But we’ve improved in that respect, and yes… we do owe them!”

Stellenbosch FC has the slight advantage over Cape Town City in head-to-head stats, having claimed three wins out of five, while the Citizens have only secured two wins, failing to beat their Western Cape rivals in the last two encounters.

Steve Barker and Eric Tinkler will both enter this Western Cape derby with a fully equipped squad with no injuries or suspensions on the card for the teams.

Ashley Du Preez will be looking to continue his recent form after bagging a brace against the champions Mamelodi Sundowns to take his goal tally for the season up to nine in the league.

Mduduzi Mdantsane is looking to bounce back after failing to score against AmaZulu after last finding the back of the net in their 2-0 win over TS Galaxy on 7 May for his ninth goal of the campaign.
