Chippa United are set to welcome an in-form Cape Town City side to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium when the two sides face off in their next DStv Premiership encounter on Wednesday evening.

Chippa United will come into this encounter on a three-game unbeaten run in the league following their recent goalless draw against Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium last week Wednesday.

The Chilli Boys are currently in 12th place in the league standings two points clear of the relegation zone – level on 26 points with TS Galaxy in 13th place after 26 matches.

Cape Town City are a side in form and they will enter the fixture on a 10-game unbeaten run across all competitions following their 2-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs this past weekend, with both Craig Martin and Terrence Mashego getting their names on the scoresheet.

The win sees the Citizens remain in third place on the league table with 44 points from 26 games, one point behind second-place Royal AM and 14 points behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Chippa United coach Kurt Lentjies says: “Even Eva Nga worked off his socks.

“I mean to play a position he is not used to and to drop in midfield things like that, you know that’s the sacrifices we make for Chippa United and the brand and where we want to go forward to.”

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler adds: “Our intensity in training has increased threefold and you see it from the performances on the field.

“The guys are hungry to want to achieve things and that’s what we want at Cape Town City, we want to achieve things.

“We want to fight for that top-four position and that was the major change, like I said, the unity among everyone at the club right now is very high.”

Coming into this game, City have managed to claim two wins in the last five games between the two teams, while one game has ended in a draw and the Chilli Boys only secured one win in five matches.

Chippa could be without the services of Siphesihle Mkhize, Size Mdlinzo and Veluyeke Zulu, who are all on their third yellow cards, one card away from serving a match suspension.

City boss Tinkler will be looking to rethink his squad selection with the likes of Hugo Marques, Thabo Nodada, Mpho Makola and Terrence Mashego all sitting on three cautions.

Bienvenu Eva Nga has by far been Chippa’s standout performer this season, despite the club’s poor form, with 10 goals in the league, although his last goal came against Kaizer Chiefs on April 2.

Foty City, Craig Martin has slowly begun to find his form as he managed to score his third league goal of the campaign when they edged out Amakhosi in his last outing for City.
