Kaizer Chiefs are set to renew their rivalry with SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership when the two teams do battle at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.

Amakhosi come into the game looking to return to bounce back in the league after they were forced to share the spoils with TS Galaxy after playing out to a goalless draw at the FNB Stadium in their last match.

The Soweto giant currently occupies third place in the league standings – level on 39 points with fourth-placed Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City in fifth place after 22 matches played so far this season.

Matsatsantsa are going into this match after suffering a 3-2 defeat to GladAfrica Championship side Tshakhuma FC in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals at the Thohoyandou Stadium this past weekend.

SuperSport find themselves in eighth place on the log with 31 points from 24 matches, eight points behind their next opponents Kaizer Chiefs.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter says: “We’ve completely blown our chances of putting a great pressure on Sundowns. They’ve done a fantastic job this year. I think the rest of us are playing for the following places.

“With that said, if they come to us as champions, we’ll afford them every respect a professional should afford to each other.”

SuperSport United interim coach Andre Arendse: “One thing that stood out for me at the training session is the vibe.

“There is intensity in our training, there is a willingness on how to do things and these are not things that are new to the players, they know that and they have responded well.

“People are also putting their hands on the starting lineup and any coach can tell you that it is a nice headache to have and I think that’s the thing that will drive us this week.”

Coming into this fixture, SuperSport have the upper hand with two wins in the last five head-to-head games, while Amakhosi have only won once and two ending in stalemates.

Stuart Baxter has no injuries or suspensions to report, while Andre Arendse will be boosted by the return of striking pair Thamsanqa Gabuza and Iqraam Rayners who served their suspension.

Following a season hampered by injury, Samir Nurkovic scored his first league goal of the season for Amakhosi in their victory over Chippa United and the Serbian striker is now looking to add more goals against SuperSport United on Saturday.

For SuperSport United, Gamphani Lungu will be relishing the chance to get his name on the scoresheet for the second consecutive game after he scored the equalising goal to earn his side a point against Chippa United in his previous league game.
