Chelsea will be looking to overturn a two-goal deficit when they travel to the Santiago Bernabeu for the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid on Tuesday evening.

The defending champions Chelsea are on the brink of elimination after they conceded a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the quarter-final first leg at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening.

Karim Benzema produced a masterclass performance at Stamford Bridge as the French international found the back of the net twice in the first half with two perfectly-taken headers.

Kai Havertz managed to reduce the deficit just before the halftime break, but Benzema punished Chelsea for a mistake by goalkeeper Edouard Mendy early in the second half to complete his treble.

It was a magical night for Benzema, who scored his second successive Champions League hat-trick after he single-handedly inspired Madrid’s comeback win against Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 second leg.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti: “Karim Benzema is getting better every day; just like a fine wine.

“He’s more of a leader every day, he feels more and more important in this team and this squad. And I think that’s what makes the difference.

“He has so much more personality, he knows he’s a very important player for us and he’s an example for everyone.

“I think the most important thing was the bravery that the players showed. The key was that we brought the ball out from the back very well, we were able to get between the lines and Vinicius and Karim Benzema were very dangerous. Both of them linked up very well.”

In the last five meetings between Real Madrid and Chelsea in the Champions League, the Spanish side have the advantage having won three out of five games, while one game has ended in a draw and in the most recent games, the Spanish side came out on top in the last encounter at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Injuries And Suspensions:

Carlo Ancelotti will once again be without the services of Isco, Eden Hazard and Luca Jovic due to injury, while Thomas Tuchel will have a full squad with the exception of left back Ben Chilwell, who remains sidelined with a long term injury.

Karim Benzema will be looking to emulate his performance from the first leg when they face the Blues on home turf after he bagged his second consecutive hat-trick in the competition to guide his side to victory against the defending champions.

Despite finding the back of the net in the first leg, Kai Havertz is be determined to fire Chelsea to victory in the second leg after finding the back of the net five times in his last five matches across all competitions.
