Chippa United will be looking to claim their first home win of the season when they welcome Kaizer Chiefs to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in their next DStv Premiership clash on Saturday afternoon.
The Chilli Boys currently find themselves on a two game unbeaten run in the league following their 2-1 win over Golden Arrows before playing out to a goalless draw against Marumo Gallants in their last game before the season international break.
PSL betting odds for the weekend
Chippa will enter this fixture in 13th place with 21 points after 22 games played, above the relegation zone and three points ahead of Swallows FC and TS Galaxy in 14th and 15th place.
Kaizer Chiefs are favourites – latest odds
The Glamour Boys’ three game unbeaten run came to an end after they fell to a shock 1-0 defeat to Golden Arrows at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, March 19 after Knox Mutizwa’s fifth minute winner.
Amakhosi came into the game sitting in third place on the table level on 35 points with fourth placed Orlando Pirates, two points behind second place Royal AM and 16 points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns after 20 matches.
Chippa United caretaker coach Kurt Lentjies is upbeat.
“The mood has definitely lifted in the team after the good results from the past two matches,” he says.
“But the mood has always been there since day one when I started.
“I can’t ask more for what these guys have been giving to me, the club and to themselves.
“So the boys are working with smiles on their faces.”
Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter wants to improve.
“Our confidence also affected us when we were on the ball. We were not positive and lost so many balls. The sensible person knows that (us winning the league) is a possibility and not a probability.
“We had to do our job tonight and keep the pressure on Sundowns.
“The pressure is almost minimal and right now it is negligible. They can kick on and relax in their games.”
In head-to-head stats in the last five games, Chippa have only won one game, while Chiefs have been dominate with four wins out of five games, with the most recent game saw Amakhosi clinch a comfortable 4-0 victory at the FNB Stadium on 16 October 2021 through a brace by Keagan Dolly and goals from Khama Billiat and Lazarous Kambole.
I
Lentjies only has one injury coming into the match as winger Jemondre Dickens remains sidelined with a knee injury, while Stuart Baxter is expected to have a fully fit squad for the encounter.
I
Bienvenu Eva Nga will be itching to get his name back on the scoresheet after failing to score in his last game against Golden Arrows after completing a brace against Marumo Gallants in the fixture before.
Chiefs will rely on duo Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly to produced the good, having created 24 goals between them, with Billiat scoring seven and assisting six, while Dolly has found the net six times and assisted a further five.
